The origin of Crispbread
Where does Crispbread come from?
From Wasabrod of course! Although the world's largest crispbread factory is nowadays located in the heart of Varmland's forests in Sweden, crispbread has been baked for thousands of years. In the old days, it used to be baked in large batches once or twice a year, following the cereal harvest.
Why was crispbread invented?
Because a type of bread was needed which could be stored for a long time without affecting the ingredients' conservation. This hard dry bread was baked in large discs with a hole in the middle. The bread was then threaded onto a pole and hung from the ceiling.
Wasa & Rye

Rye is a vital part of our diet. Most of Wasa breads are baked using 100% wholemeal and most of Wasa crispbreads contain all of the grain, including the husk and the germ. Rye is very rich in minerals, fibers, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Recent research shows that increased consumption of rye products can reduce the risk of some forms of cancer.
