1927 marked the birth of PEZ. Eduard Haas had an idea, which was to start the triumphant campaign around the entire globe, which continues until the present day. At that time, candy flavored with valuable peppermint aroma was promoted as “The mint for the refined world” for adults
Candy with a hint of peppermint flavoring – that was the first PEZ in 1927. Even then there were candies in the familiar PEZ tablet form. Whilst the shape remained, the peppermint didn’t.
1952 saw the start of the breakthrough into the American market, and in order to make the product more attractive to Americans, small heads were put on the dispensers. As a result the product became more attractive for children, and the popularity of PEZ could no longer be kept in check.
1962 The licenses were purchased for Walt Disney cartoon characters. Boxes were decorated with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy and the rush could no longer be stemmed. With each new series, the PEZ brand increasingly becomes a collector’s cult and fascinated young and old all over the world.
1999 a new generation of PEZ dispenser figures was brought to life with the first Interactive Candy. The range for the new generation of candy dispensers, which guarantee more fun and games with PEZ, includes everything from the candy cell-phone to the school tool.
Today PEZ is available in delicious Strawberry, Lemon, Orange, Cherry and Cola flavors. A special mixture of sugar is mixed with the required flavoring, pressed into the correct shape and the dream candy is then ready.
4.2 billion pieces of PEZ are consumed every year! Placed end to end, this quantity would be enough to circle the equator one and a half times!
